Dollar Store Comparison

Can you own a Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree?

Dollar General

Dollar General is not a franchise. With more than 18,000 stores in 47 states, that makes them one of the biggest convenient stores in the country. Dollar General was founded in 1939 and has continued to grow throughout the years. Even though they have grown to this size, potential owners still cannot own their store because it is not a franchise and does not allow full ownership by location management.

How to Start a Dollar Store

Family Dollar

Family Dollar is not a franchise. Starting in 1959 Leon Levine opened the first Family Dollar store and has continued to grow the business into what it is today. Though they have 8,000 locations across the country, none of them are owned by staff or local management. All locations are owned by the company itself and does not allow for even partial ownership of the store process.

Dollar Tree

Dollar Tree is not a franchise. With over 5,000 stores in the United States, Dollar tree remains as one of the largest companies in the low-cost store giants. Dollar Tree does partner with local real estate experts as well as merchandise and supplies vendors in the area but does not allow for someone to own a local Dollar Tree. All Dollar Trees are owned by the corporate level but managed by local individuals.
